leaky tap

mrs. zipursky: your paper is late.
student: i know but haven’t you ever played with musicians that kept everyone waiting but we’re great musicians?
mrs. zipursky: i have but they would have failed this course.
student: isn’t that a little unfair, the course is about playing music not writing papers.
mrs. zipursky: everything is a little unfair.
student: you once said you like the movie music of nino rota. was he unfair?
mrs. zipursky: totally.
student: but you said you loved him.
mrs. zipursky: i do. how talented he was, that was unfair.
student: are you going to dock marks because the paper is late?
mrs. zipursky: what does it say to those who handed it in on time if i don’t?
student: i was writing a song while working on the assignment and the song took over my life. do you know what that’s like?
mrs. zipursky: i do.
student: so give me a break.
mrs. zipursky: would you agree that great musicians can play more difficult things than other musicians?

student: i would.

mrs. zipursky: what’s more difficult? to be so into your music that you forget about everything else or to be so into it and pay the electricity bill on time and make dinner and fix the leaky tap?
