The first time I heard Hallelujah by L. Cohen I thought the lyric was about someone trying to get laid. Over the years it seems to have gained a second life and a third life, frequently covered. Maybe it is just me, but all the accomplished and earnest singers make it sound like it’s about a spiritual epiphany, as though it is about a reckoning of God.
