I played with a musician who was not very talented and frequently made mistakes and they did the weirdest thing, they turned up their volume. Seemed so unintuitive to call more attention to your mistakes but it’s a big world, many different people with different ideas about reality. There were a lot of fights within the band about his volume but he wasn’t interested in the opinions of others so I got earplugs. .This afternoon a little boy walked up to me at the High Park Nature centre “is that a real moustache?” I said yes it is. He got wide eyed and shook his head disapprovingly and told me I was lying. 10 minutes later he came round again posing the same question, this time I told him he’s right, this is not a real moustache. He smiled like we were friends now. It’s a lot of work to try persuading someone to view differently, way simpler for getting along to just affirm their fantasies.
