when an ambulance goes by and i plug my ears i’m hoping that stops the sound completely but you know it doesn’t despite my pinkies fitting so snug. is the sound that still gets in coming from teensy sound waves going through space that still exists in the teensy world between my fingers and the ear canal or is it entering through my nostrils? it is impossible to experience silence, even harder from thought.

For the longest time I thought the sound of silence was what I’m hearing when there’s no outer noise; or that I was hearing the electricity of my own body. It took me a long time to realize I have mild tinnitus! Darn. I liked it much better when I thought I was listening to the “music” of the universe. -Kate
