Borris, a decent musician, absorbed many techniques yet found himself always sounding like himself. This resulted in a feeling of defeat. He held the view that his musicianship could reach a more unique position if he could sound unlike himself. A strange way to put it but intuitively made sense. He considered a new solution, to think differently than he ordinarily thought. Basically, when he found himself ready to agree with this or that or ready to dispute this or that he would practise taking a contrary view. This was no easy objective. He was a leftist and now he defended right wing ideas. He found Springsteen boring and now extolled the virtues of Clarence Clemons to anyone who would listen. He despised advertisements on Youtube and now viewed them in their entirety. Slowly but surely he began to not recognize himself, musically too.
