Tianenman Square

Was thinking about next week’s class and how I want to address how music can affect change. Then I thought about asking the students for examples of images that do that and recalled such an image, the lone young man stopping a tank in Tianenman Square. Then realized one of the students lives in Beijing and that China controls their internet in such a way that that story doesn’t exist when Chinese people google it. In fact I think if I was to bring it up in our Zoom class, I bet it flags online surveillance systems and possibly creates unwanted attention or worse for this innocent student. Possibly he doesn’t even know the story. How ironic that this is a perfect example of the fucked up shit I want to bring to their attention but it has passed that threshold and firmly planted itself into a whole other level of madness.
