one on one

Played basketball yesterday, one on one with Simon who is fifteen years younger than me and bigger. Sure was quick how spent I was and how much my feet later ached – but worth it. My cousin Gail was in the Olympics playing basketball forty years ago. Pretty sure she could take me, though I might stand a better chance, we’re about the same height and she’s five years older. My brother Ronnie and Gail used to sneak cigarettes downstairs when we had family soirees. What is it with athletes, singers and wind players that they like to smoke? Is it true that the brain is a megalomaniac? It can invent a rocket ship or hip replacement surgery, but it can’t help daring death every chance it gets. Watched Intangible Asset Number 82, the documentary about an elderly Korean genius improvisor. So great to see someone in their 80s or 90s have that relationship with drumming, I don’t think Simon could take him.
