Bargain

Tried to reach Meredith Monk, so far no reply. Adding the muteness to the growing list I take a chance on who don’t take a chance back. It’s a list with good company Nina Hagen, John Zorn, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Evan Parker and Stevie Wonder. If only I could meet any of them in person for five minutes, bet the pitch is more charming in person especially if I played excerpts of the music in focus. Lot of Sun Ra talk in the PhD class but I’m keeping silent about the New York show in 1985 next to the Chelsea Hotel, dancing with the band (as did the rest of us in the audience). Those tickets were $17, like $60 today. What a bargain for having your life completely changed in under an hour. Maybe Meredith Monk won’t reply but at least I once sat before John Gilmore and Marshall Allen while June Tyson held us in the palm of her throat.
