Am almost finished the R. Murray Schafer autobiography though there are four other books being read simultaneously for school. I prefer one at a time but am not in a position to do this any differently than how it is going down. Have grown very fond of R. Murray Schafer’s stories. How fortunate to have the city of Kyoto commission him to make a choral work or the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra indulge a piece that used live snowmobile in the percussion section. Also fun facts Jim Henson wanted to collaborate and they flew him to New York to discuss ideas but the weirdest surprise was Ezra Pound who Schafer writes to about completing his opera started years earlier pre fascisim, antiSemitism and the fifteen years in an asylum instead of a firing squad. Pound receives Schafer’s letter and writes back, “Your proposal sounds unvenomed and innocuous. Don’t come.” to which Schafer shows up anyway and Pound realizes he can’t stop the man from Sarnia.
