John who managed Blue Rodeo, was into Pramahansa Yogananda and his book Autobiography of A Yogi. He used to talk to me about it because I was a vegetarian and he thought that meant I would like the book. He also liked Sri Yuksteswar’s book The Holy Science and said thoughts aren’t real, they are just the brain activity resulting from hormone activity and that’s why people often can’t figure out why they did this or that which they feel bad about or guilty about or regret about. I used to think he was full of shit but now I don’t think so. Not so sure what to say about thought except how can you study thought when the thing you are using to study it is the thing itslf. His favourite record was George Harrison’s Living in a Material World. He knew the lyrics to every song off by heart. He quit the business just as we were taking off and moved maybe to Vancouver Island. I was listening to one of those songs recently and found it more interesting than when I first heard it
remember, now, be here now
as it’s not like it was before
why try to live a life
that isn’t real
no how
a mind, that wants to wander
round a corner
is an un-wise mind
