Ain’t Gonna Study War No More. it’s a riddle because of “study” which elicits an answer about humankind and circular motion, the need to fight/ argue in perpetuity. the only way out is to forget about caring about who won and who lost but to instead privilege giving up the game or at least gain the benefit of realizing it is a game. just as good a metaphor applying to oneself as it is nation vs. nation warfare. are you not living perpetual inner arguments about how you should be? how you should not be? how you never will be? blah blah blah. the old ouspensky group has a solution, stare at a flame, watch your breath and forever discuss stopping thought. nice but no cigar. to think about stopping thought is still thinking. plus, thoughts return with a vengeance or a guilt trip. sister rosetta tharpe’s version is the one I’ve been listening to. I bet she’s in her 20s or at least I hear the girly glee and cracking up to herself sound of a much younger woman. especially adding as many “no no no’s” as she can pack into the 2cnd half of Ain’t Gonna Study War No More. she sounds devilish and playful. worth the admission.
