Chrissie worked a few years as a bartender at the Tranzac and her musical taste was more unusual than other people working here. African or electronic and very adventurous songs I never heard elsewhere. Her playlists sometimes irritated customers, an older singer songwriter who attended the open stage, said something insulting to me about what was playing on the speakers as if it was severely offensive to those waiting their turn at This Land Was Made For You And Me. Chrissy didn’t have much singer songwriter love which is partly why I took note when she told me about a singer songwriter who she thought the real deal, that played the piano at the open mic. I went the next week and listened and though it didn’t knock me out, I took note because sometimes when someone you admire is excited it makes you think twice about your own reaction. Chrissie’s own musical performances were mazing and blew me away even though she is technically untrained her choices were the quintessential knock out outsider art-music, everything felt ahead of the curve. I stayed in touch with the piano singer songwriter and she sent me her latest work recently and it’s inspiring. Once other things are out of the way I’ll be working on her record.
