I started listening to The Spaniels and instantly understood Frank Zappa’s teenage life. I liked the Del Vikings and I liked Frankie Lymon. The Ink Spots too but they’re much earlier and a whole other thing – it was after Phil Spector died and I played some interviews and he singled out The Spaniels and then I put them on, it was gold. At least one good thing you did Phil.

I am the same, in the way an interview (or biography) with an artist who talks about their influences makes me go to that music.
