sprouts

I returned to some exercises which I’ve been dutifully practicing each day. pleasantly surprised by some incremental advancement. No matter how hard I tried yesterday or days before – it just wasn’t going to happen. What reason is there for the thing I was trying to do before, now working out? Between then and now all that happened was not practicing. I had dinner, played with my daughter, went to sleep. How is it, that time away from the activity leads to further development? A better question might be to consider which part of the brain is so amazed by this? (actually the better question is how can you talk about the brain as though separate from it) It’s the conscious mind that is so amazed. The conscious self believes it is driving the car despite the fact that the conscious mind has nothing to do with your toenails toenailing, your liver livering or your heart beat heart beating. In fact the car it thinks it is driving it never built, never selected, never even refueled it. The credit for the new finger coordination and memory pathways belongs to something else and that thing has its own clock and its own conditions. It’s just plain spooky how the two are related. Advertising is sort of similarly eerie because as annoying and unwelcome it may be, it works through consciousness and places itself there like a seed in the Earth. Even if you hate the ads it might still make roots in the soil of mind and when you need something like that thing which has an ad you despise – you conjure them up as a choice because they got into the soil of mind. Practicing might seem impossible but it sprouts.
