Playing two shows in mid April, Toronto and Ottawa. Now that gas is $100 a tank it’s even more pointless than ever to travel five hours and perform for less than the cost of doing it. Anyone need a ride to Ottawa Thursday April 14th want to split gas? Lynn Miles offered to arrange a hotel room but when I started performing as a young person in Blue Rodeo, we always drove back all night unless it was over 7 hours away. Ottawa, Montreal, Windsor, we would still drive back after the show and I like that all night energy. I drove slow in the slow lane, I think about rabbits or larger things with eyes but that’s no guarantee. Cleave hit a rabbit one time, it was just me and him driving back from one of those 5 hour away places. He was a postman and had to be back for work. I heard the bump and maybe a little yelp came out of Cleave’s mouth. I think about those animals that are in the middle of the road in the dark, that see the approaching lights and remain still, fascinated by the growing moving aura, not knowing it is actually a brick wall moving at high velocity that will smash the life out of them.
