Baked acorn squash 90 minutes at 350. I like it charred and carmelized. One old sansevieria from a few years ago is now twenty tiny clones, the haworthia too and I just realized why they stay small, miniature planters, doh. Listened to a recording of Bud Powell playing too fast for human hands. Part of me wants to avoid hearing it again but part of me knows Lenny Breau achieved greatness by setting his sights on hearing Les Paul and Mary Ford playing at supernatural velocity. Fortunately nobody interrupted Beau’s perception, nobody said you can’t do that, they aren’t even actually doing it they’re playing with technology. And therefore Breau attained astounding heights play. Three smaller plants died from neglect outside though I brought the bulk of everything inside more than a month ago. I had no space for those three remainders. I wince a little for each life I ended but in truth I’m unsure of that line of thought since I never made the very life I’m living. Not so sure any separate life is actually a separate life including yours truly . Don’t interrupt my perception, it’ll lead me somewhere spectacular.

I brought in two jalepeno pepper plants that were still flourishing in late fall, and kept them alive long after the outside air was well below freezing. Alas, with no insect critters inside to vanquish whatever parasites they had, the almost invisible monsters flourished even though the plants were producing fruit. Finally I couldn’t stand the thought of the parasites spreading from the 2 plants in the porch to the ones in the rest of the house — it could happen — but also the pepper leaves and fruit bothered me to look at — white specks of something (perhaps egg sacks) all over them, and the occasional moving beast with legs. So after much delay I put them on the back step, where they froze, and did I ever feel bad about that. I still wince when I see them there. -Kate
