we travel the starship from planet to planet

In the 70s, a teenager named Al, who had had enjoyable acid experiences with blotter and microdot, obtained window pane for the first time and took it while attending a party and it was much more intense than anything he experienced before. He became panicky and told his friends he was going to die and he lost his mind and he’ll never get back. He was convinced he had entered a state of insanity and this was probably how others who are considered insane feel and this is his new norm forever. He cried, he hyperventilated. His friends relocated him away from the party to a quieter room where people took turns trying to help him calm down and return to Earth so to speak. He felt too hot and took off his clothes, he felt too cold and grabbed sheets to cover himself. Then another person at the party, Rugvalder, a modest acid head, heard about the predicament and offered to talk with Al. He thought he could convince him all he needed to do was understand the pleasure of tripping. He leaned in and said you know I’d give anything to be where you are now. Al couldn’t believe these words and forgot about his problems, I wouldn’t want my worst enemy to be in this situation, laughed Al. He was amazed that Rugvalder existed, so out of touch with reality, endorsing the state of Al, which was hell. The incongruence sparked him coming down and navigating more easily what was left of the trip. The next day and for months afterward, Al often thought the most amazing part of that horrible experience was that just hearing a few words changed everything, and what are words but from another explanation, sounds. He was saved by frequencies. And if that wasn’t unbelievable, a few years later he attended a concert by Sun Ra, where by the end, found himself with the rest of the audience in a choo choo train along with the band chanting, we travel the starship from planet to planet.

  1. Yes! A few words can make that big a difference — it’s true! I’ve been where Al was, minus the heavy-duty tripping, and just a sentence from a friend refocused me so the panic disappeared. -Kate
