david: unreleased

Hard to believe while the Beatles were doing Let It Be, in 1969 Motown recorded a solo David Ruffin at the height of his powers. Never released it until 13 years after he died in the 2000’s. I read Michael Jackson picked up his funeral costs as the circumstances around his death included an empty bank account. I wondered what he meant to Michael but today after acquiring the record (Spotify, David: The Unreleased Record) I notice he covered ” I Want You Back” which is much more interesting sung not by a thirteen year old. Perhaps Motown didn’t want him competing with The Jackson Five. It’s a great record as is the 1970 album between him and his brother Jimmy, called I Am My Brother’s Keeper. Jimmy’s voice also very very awesome, the guy who wrote and sung What Becomes of The Broken Hearted.
