I have found a way to play some swift passages, a way to see within scales and utilize advantageously parts of each scale, the ones that fit easiest in my fingers. It is game changing for my own piano work and last night’s Zoom concert was another example of trying it out in front of people because no matter what you think you know, something else happens to complete the circle of learning when you do it before others. I don’t know why, I only know it is. I’m teaching piano to many beginners, a great pleasure to teach them but I never know with certainty if what I’m doing keeps them fixed to this activity forever. I’d love to show the swift shit but the virtues of power steering or cruise control don’t mean much if they’re only turning the key in the ignition.
