10,000

One of the earliest songs I wrote was 10,000 miles. I shared a house then with Kenn and while talking about a problem that bugged me he said there’s this philosophy to ask yourself what does it look like from 10,000 miles up in the sky, when you look back down.

Have to write up my podcast idea. Ten pages. Not so tough. Have to reference some of the books connected to the course. Not so tough. Have to be careful about speaking my mind since the teacher failed my last submission which was in the form of song, which I asked in advance if I could write, it was after all a reflection paper but the humour annoyed her. She found it insulting and glib. That’s tough. It isn’t the first time my ideas about what I’m saying and her interpretation occupy not the same page. From my point of view it was neither insulting nor glib but she’s in charge. You can’t force someone to understand a poem or a song or a painting. When a cop pulls you over is it wise to argue with them or be agreeable?

From 10,000 miles, up in the sky, it don’t matter, you don’t have to cry.
