Attended an online lecture of Bernadine Evaristo speaking from her home in England to a group of readers at the Calgary, Alberta library. That was fun. I even got the last question though the host read it and he omitted my entire gushing intro, damn him. I was edited to simply, “here’s one from Bob, can you share some of your exercises with students in creative writing?” Her answer was interesting, sort of stuff you read in “how to” books. She said make lists of what your characters do or like etc. I had other questions but each time I thought about it I also instantly answered myself. She spoke about improvisation a lot, never using that word but it was the same. Instances without a plot but still, through following characters, plot reveals itself.
