spies

Today, for the first time, my daughter got off the school bus by herself and walked home alone. Previously I agreed to let her but indicated I would spy in the background, just in case of any trouble. It worked out but then she insisted I let her try again and not bother to spy, today was it, the real deal. Currently I’m teaching one adult and 4 kids. The adult is in her 40s, more a peer. Whatever I show her, she can play it back pretty accurately, it’s a bit intimidating, a bit like why’d you call me for lessons but at the same time, I can tell these things aren’t really grounded inside her, not yet. She wants to walk home alone but at the same time I think she likes knowing I am somewhere there spying.

  1. When you first walk in an unknown neighbourhood, everything is foreign. “Do I turn here? Was there always a tree there? Why don’t I recognize this place when it’s dark out?”

Thank goodness for those who are willing to “spy”, and act as a guide and safety net. 🙂
