signifying nothing

Before she died Lianne Fournier recorded a last song and it accommodates dying from that space known specifically to people positioned in last times, a pose eventually each of us assumes. She says “be the passage of the time” and it makes me feel things similar when I heard Warren Zevon’s final song cycle like Keep Me In Your Heart, “sometimes when you’re doing simple things around the house maybe you’ll think of me and smile, you know I’m tied to you like the buttons on your blouse, keep me in your heart for a while.” Both make me think of grade 11 and wrinkled English teacher Nellie Stadnyk, always grinning without explanations, makes me memorize “life is but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his way upon the stage and then is heard no more.” She would have had to be ok with knowing maybe one day a young person will realize the worth of this appointment, maybe not. There is no universe where I can return to and say I get it and thank her for her thoughtfulness and training, she’s gone, but I do like knowing Shakespeare, Warren Zevon and Lianne Fournier understand it too.
