Nine year olds watching the Big Lebowski. I don’t get it but it happened a couple months ago at a birthday party my girl attended. She and her friend afterwards were all on fire about how amazing the film was. It didn’t take long to determine they have no idea what the film was about and how could they? But the idea of something for adults was intoxicating. I wouldn’t select The Big Lebowski, swearing, nudity, fights and a lot of pot as I recall. What’s the point for a nine year old but then again me, David Herschfield and maybe Shelly Garfield and Janet Corne, one time in grade 5(?) went to an adult movie at the Odeon. The Hospital starring George C. Scott. It made no sense whatsoever, pretty boring but pretty exciting we got in and played grown up. If I only knew they were about to jump from Olivia Rodrigo to the Coen brothers I would have started with Blood Simple. My John Turturro shirt arrived yesterday, a drawing of him in character as Jesus bowling. I envy Carter Burwell who does the music in Coen brothers films. I envy anyone who gets a shot at great films especially at an ongoing relationship. My daughter pointing to John Turturro asked who is the dude on the shirt? I said that’s not the dude, you should know.
