conundrums

A musician did a performance and agreed to an honourarium of $100. The institution who hired him afterward said they could issue a tax receipt by paying him a nominal fee i.e. $500 then added he just donates it back and then they issue him a tax receipt for his donation. He wondered why this would be advantageous considering it also bumped up his income by $500. This was harder to sort out than the conundrum of a man who walks into a building each day, walks up seven flights of stairs to his office and then upon finishing each day’s work takes the elevator to the ground floor or that other excellent one about a house on a hill, a wide open door, a table, broken glass and water on the ground, heavy winds outside and jack and jill were dead…how did they die? But as for the musician’s tax receipt, that’s beyond my powers of logic.
