Opened for Ronnie Hawkins with Blue Rodeo in the 80s at City Hall on New Year’s Eve. Heard him eulogized on CBC the other day after he died. I remember finding his music pretty meat and potatoes country rock, not so memorable to me. During the interviews it stuck out when he dismissed John Lennon for not having a powerful relationship with the guitar. Lennon wasn’t Hendrix or Reinhardt or Segovia but he never claimed to be. I would take the quality of all three Beatles soloing on side two of Abbey Road over all the cheese I heard on that NYE. Not a big originality contest if one compares copying Hey Bo Diddley to creating Dear Prudence.
