student 1: the other day I was practising and I had an epiphany that dreaming about getting better is just a dream.
student 2: but you do get better if you keep working on it.
student 1: I know it, but rarely feel where I’m at is good enough, instead I’m always imagining where I could be, or should be, so maybe constant comparison keeps you from seeing what’s going on.
student 2: so what’s going on?
student 1: I guess constant imagination. Does that make sense?
student 2: I think you’re trying to say the state of not dreaming is actually what’s going on and you can’t realize it because in fact we’re constantly dreaming.
student 1: you know what would screw it up?
student 2: what?
student 1: pretending while you practise that you are satisfied with what you’re doing or how you do it.
