average rent

Today I read average rent in Manhattan currently is $4100 a month, that’s about fifty thousand a year in rent. So impossible to believe. My brother and I were amazed when we heard how much the landlord was asking for the house we rented on Major street in the eighties. One hundred and four thousand dollars. That was crazy, but we didn’t understand you don’t need to have 100% of the asking price. 25% gets the mortgage. We wouldn’t have had 25k but maybe a conversation with our father or others could have helped make sense of the ins and outs. There was a kid when I was in grade seven who told me his parent’s home cost seventeen thousand dollars, a small bungalow across from the Pan Am pool. Day three of covid, tired and tired. I was worried at first about my lungs since those are the most horrible Covid stories. Glad it isn’t in my lungs, also glad I don’t need to find a place in Manhattan.
