Checked out my new classroom today at Seneca. Feels great and no snags in the computer or screen which obviously means it won’t work once there’s a bunch of students in the room. Oh well. My daughter practises yo yo tricks though her style disregards maintaining the spin. She likes to play with the dead yo yo on the string. She does this for long periods and gets a lot of pleasure from these tricks. I started explaining this isn’t what yo yo aficionados do but soon realized she couldn’t care less and that doesn’t make her wrong. I used to think it was important to correct the hand positions of pianists I taught but developed second thoughts over time. There’s something about the fact that Hendrix doesn’t use his pinky as far as I ever noticed but sounds great. Just because there is a method usually used doesn’t mean everyone has to adhere to same technique.
