Searching through Disney + for something interesting. I never saw the Hitchcock film starring Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren. It was awesome but sent me down an Anthony Perkins rabbit hole. I bet anyone who knows their film music history loved the scene where Bernard Hermann insists his music be reconsidered for the shower scene and I only now realize one could call those strings, stabs. Smart direction – Hitchcock in the lobby, conducting the audience’s unseen reaction while viewing Psycho’s premier. It’s really amazing when you listen to a whack of Bernard Hermann and then consider the cool move when Martin Scorsese hired him to score Taxi Driver. Horns instead of strings, yet one knows right away this isn’t the first time we’ve tasted ideas like this but the spice has changed.
