Gypsy said, gonna be a son of a gun

Went to see Buddy Guy with Anand. So odd to see the jam session from Grossman’s Tavern up on the Massey Hall stage. Equally odd people dropping major coin to be there as if it was not the local jam session from Wednesday night. He referenced Muddy Waters at least four times. I liked that most about watching and listening. No doubt Muddy Waters was a big deal in his life and relationship to music. He played Got My Mojo Working and Hoochie Coochie Man. I saw Muddy Waters in Winnipeg when I was 14. He was in his late 70s and played seated. He didn’t move much. I did not find it very interesting though perhaps I just did not understand. I was the poster boy for the adage Youth is Wasted on the Young.
.
At one point Buddy Guy asked the audience if they recalled the 50s American TV show Shindig. Then he went on to tell a story about how the British band The Rolling Stones refused to play it unless they included Muddy Waters. His story was about how impressed he was that they did that and it was the first time he ever saw Muddy Waters on Television. The woman a couple rows below us momentarily interrupted him loudly. At the moment in when he stated “You know the British band the Rolling Stones” she shouted “they stole your music!!” She wanted to beat him to the punch and demonstrate how well she knew the history of how horrible people are but he just continued telling his story which was about how good people could be.
