I wrote to Danny Goldberg for advice about a course I plan on teaching one day. He has owned record companies and management companies. A significant mover and shaker. He wrote me back. Damn it is awesome when they write back. The course is about business people behind the success of different artist people. I think case studies about that sort of thing might prove intriguing for a musician trying to scope out how to get ahead because just being able to play well isn’t enough. There was a girl in my class ten years ago with a magical voice. Totally amazing with a capitol “A” for amazing. Best I heard. Now she’s a hairdresser and a mother and I think she is happy but she had a different plan ten years ago. It morphed directions probably because nobody teaches people what else to do besides fine tune their talent. If among the needles in the haystacks you find a Brian Epstein or a Jon Landau it is likely your future takes a different course, something closer to what you hoped for in the first place.
