Now, on the piano, I definitely now know From Me To You in French, “des bises des moi pour toi”. I can’t say every word I’m singing I understand, but for now I don’t care. Seems a useful way to learn more of a language and the simplest strategy for a musician. I also have my antenna up for what song to do next. I assumed I would stick to Beatles because there are some hilarious Beatle songs in French. Started to think I would next proceed with like Your Mother Should Know, then I came upon two different versions by men probably both born in the 40s, that cover Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline. I love it but need Magali to look over their translations. They use completely different lyrics and neither reminds me literally of what Neil meant. I suspect this is all very understandable and makes it better as a French song. You could play the exact notes of Purple Haze on a trombone or a harmonica but being exact could also be ridiculous. One of them even changed the title. Pierre Lalonde’s version is called Oui Caroline. Probably I should with his because that title makes me smile each time.
