the joke

Working away at my French. I still am horrible but at least can say I am horrible in more ways than ever. There is this thing about French that is a show stopper, the fact that when a word ends in a consonant, usually one doesn’t pronounce it, however, if the following word starts with a vowel then you slide the sound of the previously unspoken consonant into the beginning of the word that starts with a vowel. On the surface that sounds like taking a calculus class. Then you listen to French speakers doing it and obviously they do it from experience without stumbling over it like a math problem. Even when I show a beginner the key of C, only white notes, they can’t just jump in and play it freely without stumbling and if I point out F# is actually the same thing, they look like they heard an offensive joke.
