The scheduled art show was canceled because the artist had some works being printed and they were delayed and yada yada Jen came to the rescue which was nice. Her being out of town meant I hung it myself which also was nice. Reminded me what I learned about the art business from Soozie who had the first show and demonstrated how to think about the room and the art. Of course this is all only in one’s head but at the same time it is a type of dance I feel capable of. I can’t waltz or tango though. None of it. Some unusual performance artists brought me to Kuopio Finland fifteen years ago to show my films and sing my songs. Immense fun. Then one of them wanted to make a video which required me to waltz with another one and I tried but so clumsy. Small price to pay for the awesome free trip to Finland. They kept apologizing for the cold and the snow but it was totally Winnipeg and they didn’t understand that I was finding the whole thing sentimental. I met a guy during that trip who wrote books about his drug experiences with improvisation. He believed taking peyote, then playing freely improvised music was a way to reach nirvana. I guess if nirvana involves throwing up and trying to stay alive for eight hours then I would agree. That is all it was like for me as a teenager minus the free improvisational music.
