I have three online piano students living in other cities. Recently one asked me about Randy Newman’s piano style and we did some Newmanesque piano tricks. Then he added what’s up with his hatred of short people. Really I asked? You specifically think he hates short people? He looked back at me surprised. Isn’t that what he wrote? No, I said, it is about racism. He’s showing the inner voice of a nutbar, he doesn’t want any short people to live. The point is consider the view of bigotry. You get it? He said he wasn’t so sure he doesn’t hate short people. Later that night my fortune cookie coincidentally said “the artist who does not spoon feed, suffers fools.”
