Driving home the other night from Guelph I thought about the time I read Black Francis say the White Album was his fave and all those years ago when I read that I thought, yeah that’s right, the White album rules but for reasons unknown I switched on Magical Mystery Tour and to quote Van, it stoned me to my soul. I don’t think I paid respect to the way 24 yr. old George Harrison was playing with stream of consciousness writing in Blue Jay Way. Just about waiting for someone who hasn’t arrived and feeling impatient or hopeful (probably peaking to window pane) while waiting. But moments later John Lennon ups the ante, applies another stream of consciousness lyric in I Am The Walrus but with so much amazing wordplay and power. I once saw a t-shirt online that read Expert Texpert Choking Smokers. I regret not buying it.
