In the last class a student suggested we write a song together as a group. I sort of rolled my eyes on the inside but said ok let’s try. Then I watched them go from enthusiastic to bored and frustrated. The person who initiated it ended up in a corner playing alone, others argued about where to rhyme, what meter to stick to, what sense the lyrics made or didn’t make and then they wanted to move on. I then said I always thought of group writing as a tower of babel situation. Unexpectedly Madison asked building or tearing down? Tearing down of course but I loved the fact that I forgot the story starts off with them being on the same page.
