Attended a lecture about privacy and how many apps record and sell your info. It annoys me, leaves me feeling dumb going with the flow, letting the apps know so much. If I understand correctly using just a few popular things such as Chrome, Google Maps, WhatsApp means these things are recorded: where you have been, what time you left, when you arrived, how often you use apps, with who you use them and your calls may be recorded, there is no straight answer about that part. I liked hearing about the alternative apps whose purpose sometimes is exactly to offer same services without tracking you. I think I’m going to change from gmail etc. Sort of like how musicians sometimes discuss being associated with corporations or being independent.
The corporate control thing has so much overreach. In very early days of Blue Rodeo, John Caton our manager wanted us to sign a contract that stipulated he got about 20% of anything we did in the band or outside of the band. Might have been my first music business nervous breakdown. Why should I agree to give him a cut of things that have nothing to do with this pop band? Things I have not yet created but only imagine I wish to try doing. None of it has anything to do with him. Why agree to a percentage in advance for him for my imaginary work? And why are the other guys willing to sign?
