I watched a young woman on X explain her views on Israel and Gaza. She reminded me of myself and the wild bronco of political thought I have tried straddling in my life. There is a lot of name calling that comes with the public square and whatever one issues as their opinion. One philosopher person I like said it’s all about the fact that people have oodles of hostility and I think them right about that. I can see it inside my own nervous system. I only have to drive about 10 seconds and be cut off three times before seriously imagining the joy of plowing into the aggressor’s car. And some unfortunates do go that far. Some even go to jail because of how out of control the hostility grabs them. I bet they spend years wondering how they didn’t stop themselves from being so stupid for just a few seconds. I loved all those high school fights. If you liked this music you were an asshole but if you liked that music you were brilliant. Someone you were attracted to might even make out with you eventually if you displayed your taste was Supertramp instead of KC and the Sunshine band (or the other way around). It didn’t make sense to me but desperately I tried to be on the right side.
