liverpool station

There was another psychological experiment I read about that stayed with me. In London, by Liverpool Station they had an actor lie on the ground and moan as if in pain, he even said “help me” and they recorded from a distance over twenty minutes of people walking past him. They changed actors to a woman, same thing. Then the first actor changed clothes. He put on a suit, similar to the general public in that space and people immediately asked if they could help him. What do we make of that? The psychologists interpretation was about pack mentality, about group behavior. A lot of it is true, I can feel it inside me when I walk away or when I choose to get involved, I think it is in music too. The pack mentality thing, I see many of my students reference the music they know everyone else approves of. I also find it interesting when they are repelled by something old until unless I can reframe it as being significant to one of their heros. Then suddenly it might be cool because so and so approves.
