The school requires me to list the learning outcomes for teaching. I hopefully choose words carefully, one can’t assume people learn anything just because you told them the car is located a block away.
They must also go see for themselves, open it up, drive it, kick the tires, take a corner, pack gear inside, change the oil, give someone a ride, try the radio, hide something under the seat, try removing a stain – what’s the basis that they achieved the goal?
1. Critically analyze and evaluate various elements and dynamics within the music industry, including the challenges and opportunities faced by musicians and music business professionals.
2. An understanding of the practical and theoretical aspects of establishing and sustaining a career in music, including the roles and perspectives of artists, managers, and other key industry figures.
3. Develop a critical perspective on significant themes such as independence, expertise, luck, and risk within the context of the music industry. They will be able to reflect on how these factors impact career development and industry dynamics.
4. Acquire practical skills through outreach initiatives, such as interacting with campus radio stations, which will enhance their understanding of media relations and industry networking.
5. Will integrate knowledge from various sources and disciplines, allowing for a well-rounded understanding of the complexities involved in pursuing a career in the music field.
6. Students from diverse academic and experiential backgrounds will be able to engage with the course material effectively, regardless of their prior experience with music, demonstrating the course’s inclusivity and broad relevance.
