I asked the new students what part time jobs they have. Usually it is a combination of Tim Hortons or Mcdonalds but this group is distinctly different. One is self employed as a voice actor, one is an orderly at a hospital and one imports clothing from China, sells it at about a 400% mark up. My first thought it to query what he knows about working conditions in China and if it effects his process to discover anything questionable about those conditions, my next thought is that me offering such an observation probably will repel him because he’s new to Canada, he’s alone and proud that he has this business which is providing him with security and a way to move forward and become secure if only for the moment, my third thought is that Hendrix title Have You Ever Been Experienced…I Have because this is an echo of my music observations. If i explain what I find hollow or questionable about anything current whether Taylor Swift or The Weeknd I offend most students (even readers of my writing) because the real issue in their minds is that I am unnecessarily being critical of what they embrace.
