thot judge

The first times I heard Warren Zevon I found his works muddy. I didn’t like his voice or the sounds of the mid range. I kept trying to like him because so many interesting aspects to his musical life. REM backing up the whole Sentimental hygiene album, Dylan and Neil Young playing on the same record, Linda Ronstadt covering Carmelita, Warren Zevon covering Judee Sill’s Jesus Was a Cross-maker. It hit me one day when I heard the opening to Lawyers, Guns and Money. I couldn’t believe the lyric I was hearing. Who could start a lyric like this? As smart as Randy Newman but not at all Randy Newman. I was hooked and pleasantly surprised to find out it was him. I thought about that while listening to Ana Kasparian talk on Piers Morgan about how her relationship as a leftist changed since 2017. So many similar dynamics. I still get all judgemental when I hear someone likes this or that music which I find repulsive….but the truth is understanding thought and taste is a more enjoyable game if I keep my judgements in check.
