Lenny Breau had a heroin problem and a staggering talent problem. I met a person once who told me they attended a concert at The Ting in Winnipeg, a small performance place. He said while enjoying the concert, Breau slowly leaned over and fell asleep, or in the language of heroin “nodded off”. Awkward for all and then he regained consciousness and realized he was holding a guitar and in a groggy curious voice ‘hey someone should play’ and resumed the concert and blew minds. In Anne Murray’s book she talks about the intensity of traveling with someone so incredibly accomplished and wildly drugged out. In Atlanta he got into the feeling of the doors of an elevator closing in on his head then rebounding away, then coming in again. He stayed there over twenty minutes and the band had to pull him away.
