dunning kruger

Over these recent years teaching I meet a lot of students who do not know how to play an instrument well but believe themselves great artists. Is that the Dunning Kruger effect? That people with lower confidence in a specific area tend to over estimate their abilities in that area, and those with higher confidence underestimate theirs?

  1. Maybe it’s because listeners are too kind to tell them they suck. Instead they’ll say “You sounded great!” even when they didn’t. And who wouldn’t rather believe that!
