The new piano student approached me after attending a Tranzac open stage. Smiling, he asked if I teach. I said I do but I’m expensive. He did not mind. He is an underwater diver. Lives here in Toronto but works in Quebec. Part of an underwater construction crew. Concrete underwater…something like that. Fascinating. He wants to learn piano to improve his life, his brain, his joy. Terrific reasons. The lessons so far seem to be 35% piano and 65% politics or philosophy. He tells me about the many blogs he consumes, some he won’t mention because his friends would freak out. It is amazing the spectrum of people from Stravinsky to Johnny Rotten who make for freak outs, Zappa even using the words as a title.
