One of my neighbours asked about what I’m doing this summer and I mentioned the upcoming performances in Kingston, Ottawa and Sudbury to which she asked, “you have new material?” and I said yes but I also thought that’s not why I’m doing shows. New songs are not the precedent behind doing a show, for me anyway just the pleasure when you have a whack of records over years, I think people who know the work also show up just to hear how you sound now. But the new songs are about Jian Ghomeshi, Katheryn Borel, David Ruffin, Tammi Terrell, Ellen McIlwaine and one night with Howard, Bazil, Maria and Greg after the last set at the Holiday Tavern.
