There was a new couple who played the open stage. She is from Toronto originally and has a nice voice. The melodies were angular and unexpected as was his guitar playing. He i American. Very unusual and accomplished. He plays a nylon string guitar on his lap like Jeff Healey used to but this is acoustic. Very pianistic the way he uses left and right hands. An acoustic usually would be too quiet, not enough sustain to keep the note values but somehow his was all working very well. Mesmerizing. But the way their piece commenced I found irksome. He announced to us that their music was complex “so please don’t try to sing along”. That made me want to join in as loud as Jerry Lewis or Andy Kauffman.
