murder

There have been murders on my street 3 nights in a row. I don’t know who is doing it but my guess is a squirrel. Two more dead sunflowers this morning. Evil bastard squirrel. Working on new piece, familiar thoughts go through me about the balance of right and left, about rhythm and melody and especially the sequence of the material for an upcoming piano concert August 8th at Hugh’s room. Then it hit me, the transitions could be different, quicker and chaotic. Why not move between this and that and this and that with no explanation. Present my pieces like turning a radio dial, interrupting their motif or engaging a randomizer button? Might that not be a realistic nod to here and now? To Youtube life? To internet life? They might throw tomatoes at me or yawn but so what, it feels more correct to my aesthetic; abruptly zig zag. Some won’t get it, it isn’t easy to follow my playing even when I make it straighter than that. Some will be annoyed and unlikely this will alter their ideas about what music should or shouldn’t be. Maybe the squirrel is just trying to help a lady bug 25 blades of grass to the east and I’m stuck in a more selfish closet unable to appreciate their greater goal.
